Parental Rights

Care About Quality was published by the California Department of Education in 2000.

As a parent you have the right to ensure your child's well-being while she is in the care of a provider. If you have concerns about the care your child is receiving, trust your instincts. Contact Community Care Licensing and your local resource and referral agency for help and support. Again, if you suspect abuse or neglect, remove your child from the caregiving situation immediately. The information specialist at 1-800-KIDS-793 can provide you with telephone numbers of your local agencies if you are unable to find them.

You have the right to check the licensing reports of visits and substantiated complaints of a licensed family child care home or center. Copies of the licensing reports must be kept on-site at family child care homes and centers. If they are not available on-site, call the California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing (CDSS/CCL), at 916-229-4500 for any inquiries.

You also have the right to report any complaints anonymously about the health and safety of children to CDSS/CCL. In most cases, a visit to the site will take place within 10 days of receiving the complaint. Parents also need to be aware that child care providers are required to report any suspected child abuse or neglect.
