State Board of Education President Michael Kirst Issues Statement Recognizing Student Engagement at State Board Meetings

Today California State Board of Education president Mike Kirst issued the following statement recognizing students' participating in today's Board meeting and responding to comments they shared about the Local Control Funding Formula:

"This is an historic time for public schools in California. The Board is encouraged by the students' participation and engagement in the state Board's discussions and in decisions about how local schools spend money and prioritize programs."

"California's new Local Control Funding Formula focuses on California's 6.2 million students and specifically provides more funding for low income students, English learners and foster youth. It emphasizes local decision-making and requires stakeholder input. The student voice is essential in this process."
