*Grade span is the range of grade levels for which a school has offers enrollment. It may not represent all grade levels that a school supports. For instance, a small school may offer grades K–6, but if no kindergartners were enrolled in the academic year, the grade span offered would still be K–6.

†Represents schools with various grade spans that are uncommon (fewer than 10 schools with those grade spans).

††Includes juvenile hall/court, county community, opportunity, California Education Authority, special education, preschool (with K-12 enrollment), district office, and state special schools.

§Nonpublic nonsectarian schools (NPSs) are CDE-certified private, nonsectarian schools that enroll individuals with exceptional needs for which the district cannot provide services. NPS schools are not included in the school count; however, students attending NPS schools are included in the enrollment count.

Note: Pursuant to Education Code Section 60900(a)(4)(A), beginning in 2023–24, the CDE began collecting Transitional Kindergarten (TK) as a separate grade-level; however, for grade span offered purposes, Grade K will continue to encompass TK. Questions regarding school grade span may be directed to the CDS Administration Office at cdsadmin@cde.ca.gov.
