The State Superintendent and the CDE have the authority to make appointments to statutory boards, commissions, task forces, and advisory committees that influence education policy and program implementation.

Participation in these bodies ensures that the voice of California's K–12 education system is represented in broader intergovernmental and cross-sector discussions. Internal Boards, Commissions and Committees

These are internal boards, commissions, and committees that are administered or supported by the CDE. It also includes groups that have been established at the direction of the SSPI to address specific educational needs or policy development across the state. Links are provided where available.

External Boards, Commissions and Committees - CDE Collaborative Work Appointments

These are external boards, commissions, and committees on which the CDE has official representation, either through direct participation or through appointments made by the SSPI. These appointments ensure that the Department’s staff expertise and policy perspectives are reflected in collaborative efforts to support statewide educational goals and the needs of students.

Personnel Commission

This application is for people interested in applying for the Personnel Commission and have been nominated by their local educational agency (LEA) board or labor association.

If you are applying for an appointment to the Personnel Commission and have been nominated by your local education agency (LEA) board or labor association, please complete these steps:

  • Email a cover letter, including your Local Educational Agency's board minutes indicating their recommendation and the applicant's resume to Appointments@cde.ca.gov.
  • Complete the Personnel Commission Application
  • * Please note that the SSPI can only appoint commissioners to personnel commissions that follow the pre-1965 merit system.
