Funding Description
The Proposition 28: Arts and Music in Schools funding program provides funding to K-12 public schools, including charter schools, to supplement arts education programs.

| Allocation Formula |
Funding is based on enrollment of preschool, transitional kindergarten, and K-12 pupils in the prior fiscal year. Of the total funding appropriated in the fiscal year, 70 percent is allocated by school site based on the share of statewide K-12 and preschool enrollment in the prior year. The remaining 30 percent is allocated based on the school site's share of statewide enrollment of economically disadvantaged pupils in the prior fiscal year. Each local education agency (LEA) is allocated the sum of funding for each school site within the LEA.

Funds are paid through the Principal Apportionment. The Advance Principal Apportionment is certified by July 20th; the First Principal Apportionment (P-1) is certified by February 20th; and the Second Principal Apportionment (P-2) is certified by June 25th. Entitlement amounts are subject to change at P-1 and P-2, with funding rates becoming final at P-2. |
