Literacy Screenings Professional Development, Fiscal Year 2024-25


Funding Description

Funding is allocated to local educational agencies to train educators to administer literacy screenings to pupils in kindergarten and grades 1 and 2 for risk of reading difficulties using approved screening instruments, pursuant to California Education Code Section 53008.

Eligibility

Eligible Applicants Local educational agencies
Required Eligibility Criteria Only county offices of education, school districts, charter schools, and state special schools with full-time equivalent (FTE) certificated staff who provide literacy instruction to pupils in transitional kindergarten, kindergarten, or any of grades 1 to 5, inclusive, as reported in the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS) as of October 2025.
Other Eligibility Considerations On or before September 1, 2029, local educational agencies (LEAs) receiving an allocation must report to the department the number of teachers that received professional development and which professional development program was used at the LEA and school site level, pursuant to EC Section 33319.6(d)(3).
