Office of School Transportation Application & Fees


Beginning January 1, 2008, the California Department of Education's Office of School Transportation will be requiring an application and training fee for each of the Department's certifications and training programs. This fee will fund the processing of the application and the training program(s). These fees are non-refundable and a check made payable to the California Department of Education is the preferred method of payment. Before submitting any application, carriers are encouraged to carefully select qualified individuals that have the necessary driving skills, the enthusiasm to teach and the ability to communicate with other drivers while meeting all of the minimum qualifications set forth in the Education Code.

Application

A $35.00 application fee (check preferred, no cash or purchase orders) will be required for each of the following applications sent to the Department of Education:

  • State Certified Instructor Program
  • Transportation Administrator Program
  • Special Needs Driver Instructor Program
  • Mountain Driving Instructor Program
  • Allied Agency Program
  • Delegated Behind-the-Wheel Trainer Certification
  • Instructor Re-Certification
Training Programs

In addition to the application fee, the following programs offered by the California Department of Education's Office of School Transportation will be implementing a fee to attend any of the following programs:

State Certified Instructor Program

$1,000 (non-refundable) this does not include transportation or meals.

Transportation Administrator Program

$600 (non-refundable) this does not include transportation, meals, or lodging.

Special Needs Driver Instructor Program

$500 (non-refundable) this does not include transportation or meals.

Mountain Driving Instructor Program

$500 (non-refundable) this does not include transportation or meals.

Allied Agency Program

$500 (non-refundable) this does not include transportation, meals, or lodging.

Delegated Behind-the-Wheel Trainer Certification

$200 (non-refundable) for a second or third performance test.
