Item 1—State Superintendent of Public Instruction Office Update

Item 2—Subject: Region IX Equity Assistance Center, Update

Item 3—California Department of Education Updates
Presented by Judy Delgado
- American Indian Education Center (AIEC) Program update, including, but not limited to:
- Reauthorization of the AIEC Program
- History Social Science Framework Presentation
Presented by Stephanie Gregson, CDE- Providing support for teachers and education programs
- Overview of the Framework development process
- History Social Science Framework: Started in 2008 and approved in 2016
- Discussion of the Fair, Accurate, Inclusive, and Respectful Education Act covering adoption of inclusive curriculum
- Edits and modifications as a result of 11,000 public comments on the Framework
- Framework is not the only resource available for school districts in supporting their implementation of the content of the Framework
- Emphasis on student inquiry
- No local requirements for grade nine; can be adopted at local level
- Grade twelve guiding principles and content to be passed before graduation
- Document available on the CDE Curriculum Frameworks Web page at http://staging.cde.ca.gov/ci/hs/cf/index.asp
- Rollout announcement to be in late August
- How can materials and curriculum developed at the local level be made available to a broader audience?
- Question as to whether we can utilize CDE Web site as a center point to identify resources that provide a more complete and accurate picture of the true history from the perspective of the Native community
- Opportunities to review materials open now for a 90-day period
- Suggestions for individuals and groups contact publishers to discuss issues of concerns
- Every Student Succeeds Act
Presented by Barbara Murchison, CDE- On December 10, 2015, President Obama signed the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), reauthorizing the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) and replacing the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), the 2001 reauthorization of ESEA. Irma Amaro—Asked for a motion to adjourn the meeting. Rod Lindsey moved to adjourn the meeting. Laura Lee George seconded. All members voted in favor.
