Item 1–Strategic Planning: Continue developing ACSE strategic priorities. Facilitated by Virginia Davis, Senior Program Associate; and Sara McClellan, Associate Director, California Comprehensive Center School Assistance Program, WestEd. (Item type: Action, information, discussion)

Item 2–Legislative Update and Discussion: Allison Smith, Special Education Consultant, Legislative Coordinator, Policy Program Services Unit, Special Education Division (SED), California Department of Education (CDE), will provide updates on proposed special education legislation. Work groups will be held to discuss legislation and report back to the Commission. (Item type: Action, information, discussion)

Item 3–Student-led Individualized Education Programs: Hyla Rachwal, ACSE Student Commissioner, will provide information on Student-led Individualized Education Programs. (Item type: Information)

3:00–3:15 p.m.

Item 4–Family Voice: Family Empowerment Centers (FECs) and Parent Training and Information Centers (PTIs) will present issues of importance to families. Stakeholders wishing to give public comment via teleconference may contact their local FEC or PTI prior to the meeting to arrange in person comment at the FEC or PTI. Item 5–General Public Comment and Organizational Input: Public comment and organizational input is invited on any matter, including items not on the agenda. The ACSE is precluded from discussing matters not on the agenda; however, questions may be asked for clarification purposes. Issues raised by the public may be referred to a future meeting agenda. Depending on the number of individuals wishing to address the ACSE, the Chair may establish time limits on presentations. (Item type: Information)

Item 10–Statewide Accountability and Assessment Update: Keric Ashley; Deputy Superintendent; District, School, and Innovation Branch; CDE; will provide updates on accountability and the Smarter Balanced and California Alternate Assessments. (Item type: Information, discussion)

Item 11–Grazer Outstanding Achievement in Learning (GOAL) Award: The GOAL award program representative, Ms. Dava Parks, Special Day Class Teacher, Kastner Intermediate School, will share the award winning Collaborative Mentoring Program. Dr. William J. Ellerbee, Deputy Superintendent, Student Support and Special Services Branch, CDE, will present the award.

11:45 a.m.–1:00 p.m.

GOAL Award Recipient Luncheon: Commissioners and Kastner program representatives will attend a hosted luncheon.

1:00–1:15 p.m.

Item 12–Liaison Reports: Updates by ACSE liaisons, State Board of Education liaison, and legislative liaisons. (Item type: Information)
