2025–26 California State Budget (Chapter 8, Statutes of 2025). Through this program, the lead county office of education (COE) grantee and its grant partners must partner with the California Mathematics Project (CMP)
to support high-quality mathematics instruction to kindergarten through grade twelve (K–12) pupils throughout the state, pursuant to the 2023 Mathematics Framework.
The 2024 MPLP Grant issued $20 million to the Kern County Superintendent of Schools (KCSOS) through a competitive request for applications process to do all the following, in partnership with the CMP:
- Develop and deliver educator training, primarily focused on the training of mathematics coaches and teacher leaders, designed to support educators throughout the state in providing high-quality K–12 mathematics instruction, aligned to the 2023 Mathematics Framework.
- Provide resources to educators on delivering high-quality mathematics instruction to K–12 pupils throughout the state, pursuant to the 2023 Mathematics Framework.
- Coordinate resources and educator training with the grantees of other mathematics educator professional development initiatives, including but not limited to all of the following:
- The California Early Math Initiative
, established by Provision 3 of Item 6100-195-0890 of the Budget Act of 2018 and augmented by Section 53 of Chapter 571 of the Statutes of 2022 (Count Play Explore
);
- Grantees of the Mathematics, Science, and Computer Science Professional Learning (MSCS PL) Grant authorized pursuant to Section 53 of Chapter 571 of the Statutes of 2022; and
- Grantees of the Learning Acceleration System (LAS) Grant

The 2025 MPLP Grant provided an additional appropriation of $30 million to the KCSOS to expand the impact of the program. The 2025 MPLP Grant allows sustained partnerships with the CMP and existing grant partners for program purposes outlined in the 2024 MPLP Grant, requires augmented collaboration with the Rural Math Collaborative to support mathematics coaching in rural areas, and requires the training of coaches who can be deployed to provide mathematics coaching in schools and local educational agencies with the highest need of support.
