COVID-19 and Data Reporting

This page provides information on the educational data published during the 2019-20 and 2020–21 academic years.

In 2019–20 and 2020–21, the California Department of Education released limited and/or no data on DataQuest and the California School Dashboard (Dashboard) due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically:

  • In 2019–20, Senate Bill 98, which was signed into state law in June 2020, prohibited the CDE from reporting state and local indicators on the 2020 Dashboard. The statute also required that available data that would have been included in the 2020 Dashboard be reported on the California Department of Education’s (CDE’s) web site if they were determined to be valid and reliable.
  • In 2020–21, Assembly Bill 130, which was signed into state law in July 2021, suspended the publication of state indicators on the 2021 Dashboard but required that available data that would have been included in the 2021 Dashboard be reported on the CDE web site if they were determined to be valid and reliable.
