NOTICE OF REQUEST TO WAIVE FEDERAL TIMELINE FOR
LOCAL EDUCATIONAL AGENCIES TO POSTPONE MANDATORY PARENTAL
NOTIFICATION REQUIREMENT OF SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT STATUS
Request for public comment on California’s request to waive the federal 14-day parental notification of school improvement status required for local educational agencies (LEAs) identified for Program Improvement (PI) in 2012-13.
Notice is hereby given that California is requesting the U.S. Department of Education (ED) waive Title I, Part A requirements (34 Code of Federal Regulations § 200.37[b][4][iv]).
The purpose of this public notice is to notify you of the opportunity to submit written public comment on the waiver request to the ED regarding the mandatory 14-day parental notification of school improvement status for PI LEAs until Accountability Progress Report (APR) data are available. Due to the delayed release of the APR data, LEAs are unable to provide parents with the required notification within the 14-day timeline required by federal law. The waiver would permit LEAs to delay notification until APR data are made available in October, at which time LEAs would have 14 days to notify parents of their PI status.
