Literacy Coaches and Reading Specialists Competitive Grant Program, FY 2022-23

Funding Description

Funding for a county office of education to develop and provide training for educators at school sites that are eligible for the Literacy Coaches and Reading Specialists grant apportionment to become literacy coaches and reading specialists. The county office of education selected as the grantee shall consider the preparation program standards set by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing for reading and literacy in developing the standards for educator training.

Required Eligibility Criteria County Offices of Education are eligible for participation in the Literacy Coaches and Reading Specialists competitive grant program.
Other Eligibility Considerations The California Department of Education (CDE) shall prioritize applicants with demonstrated success in improving literacy, especially among underperforming pupil subgroups, as well as for those planning on partnering with institutions of higher education with demonstrated success in providing statewide professional development for expert literacy practice.
