Assessment and Accountability Data Release Periods


California’s summative assessments measure end-of-year performance and inform accountability, evaluation, and support. This guidance promotes the timely and appropriate use of state summative assessment and accountability results during the release periods.

May-July:
Initial release of assessment results
  • Rolling release of results for Smarter Balanced ELA and Mathematics, CAST, Summative ELPAC, and Summative Alternate ELPAC begins.
  • Individual SSRs can be made available through local student and parent portals, printed and distributed locally, or distributed through other secure methods.
  • Individual and aggregate results are available to educators in CERS.
  • CAASPP and ELPAC Student Score Data Files are available for download from TOMS.
  • Confirm SIS credentialing in TOMS if distributing SSRs through student and parent portals.
  • Confirm user roles and student groups in CERS so educators can access results as they become available.
  • Begin reviewing data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Review ELPAC results and reclassify eligible students.
  • Do not make program decisions until all results have been received.
  • Do not wait for all results to be received to provide educators access to results in CERS.
  • Do not wait to make SSRs available to students, parents, and guardians.
August:
Final release of
assessment results
  • Final release of all results for Smarter Balanced ELA and Mathematics and CAST
  • Release of all results for CSA and CAAs for ELA, Mathematics, and Science
  • Use preliminary aggregate results for program evaluation and planning for the coming year.
  • Confirm all SSRs are distributed within 20 working days for CAASPP and within 15 working days for ELPAC after the start of the new school year.
  • Do not wait to make SSRs available to students, parents, and guardians.
September:
LEA Preview of
Assessment Results #1
  • LEA Preview of county, district and school aggregate CAASPP and ELPAC Results on the Test Results for California’s Assessments website
  • Verify summary results using Student Score Data Files from TOMS.
  • Share data for local planning, including public meetings with local governing board.
  • Do not share any county-level or other LEA’s results with your local governing board or the public until after the public release of results.
October 14:
LEA Preview of
Assessment Results #2
  • Statewide assessment results will be available to LEAs 24 hours prior to the public release.
  • Review the preview data and prepare for the public release of results.
  • Do not share statewide data until after the public release of results.
