DataQuest Update, Issue #26
DataQuest is an online data reporting resource that provides access to a wide variety of data reports and downloadable data files.

DataQuest is the California Department of Education’s (CDE) public data reporting website that provides meaningful data and statistics about California’s K–12 public education system that supports a wide variety of informational, research, and policy needs. The purpose of the DataQuest Update is to provide: (1) announcements regarding public data releases and availability; (2) general information and analysis on various data reporting topics; and (3) practical tips on how to effectively use DataQuest to obtain information. New Juvenile Court and county Community Schools data
The CDE is pleased to announce the release of new data related to juvenile court and county community schools. California Education Code (EC) 48648
requires the CDE, beginning with the 2024–25 school year, to annually report information for Juvenile Court Schools and County Community Schools.
In compliance with the reporting requirements outlined in EC Section 48648, the CDE has publicly posted the following four downloadable data files by topic based on Juvenile Court and County Community School students who were cumulatively enrolled during the 2023–24 academic year:
- Students who leave juvenile court or county community schools and re-enroll in a district or charter school.
- Students who leave juvenile court or county community schools and who do not re-enroll in a district or charter school.
- Juvenile court or county community school pupil access and completion of A–G requirements, tests, and accredited courses.
- Statewide summary of California School Dashboard (Dashboard) indicators by all juvenile court or county community schools.

How to Access the Data Files
The juvenile court and county community schools downloadable data files containing student enrollment, graduation outcomes, course enrollments, and statewide dashboard summaries are publicly available for the 2023–24 academic year on the Juvenile Court and County Community Schools Data web page. These data files can also be accessed from the Downloadable Data Files by Topic web page under Discipline Downloadable Files. Please refer to the respective File Structure web pages for important details about the associated data files, including the data layout, which data are contained in the file, data element definitions, and the levels at which data are provided (e.g., state, county, and school levels – no district-level data).
