Special Appt for Newly Operational FY 2006–07

Letter Head: Jack O'Connell, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Phone number 916-319-0800

September 8, 2006

Dear Select County Superintendents of Schools, Auditors, and Treasurers:

Special Apportionment for Newly Operational Charter Schools
Fiscal Year 2006–07

This special apportionment, in the amount of $20,042,646, is made in accordance with California Education Code Section 47652 for fiscal year 2006–07. The purpose of this apportionment is to fund new charter schools that will begin operation after the beginning of the 2006–07 fiscal year. These funds are, in effect, an advance apportionment.

The amount to be received in this August apportionment is for the months of July 2006 through October 2006 and equals 34 percent of the charter school’s projected total general-purpose state aid for the 2006–07 fiscal year. This special apportionment is based on the charter school’s estimated current year second principal apportionment average daily attendance.

The warrants will be mailed by the State Controller’s Office to the County Treasurer within three weeks from the date of this letter. The County Treasurer of each county is requested to immediately deposit the amount received into the fund or account of the participating local educational agencies or charter schools at the direction of the County Superintendent of Schools.

If you have any questions regarding this apportionment, please contact Byron Fong, Consultant, Office of Charter Apportionments and District Reorganization, at 916-323-0498 or by e-mail at byfong@cde.ca.gov [Note, the preceding contact is no longer valid.], or Cindy Chan, Administrator, Charter Schools Fiscal Office, at (916) 324-4541 or by e-mail at cchan@cde.ca.gov [Note, the preceding contact is no longer valid.]. A copy of this letter and the amount apportioned to participating local educational agencies or charter schools are available on the California Department of Education’s Web site under Principal Apportionment at https://www.cde.ca.gov/fg/aa/pa/.

Sincerely,

JACK O’CONNELL
