Funding Description
The purpose of the Immediate Aid to Restart School Operations Program (Restart) is to assist local educational agencies (LEAs) and non-public schools with expenses related to the restart of elementary and secondary schools in areas where a major disaster or emergency was declared related to the consequences of the California Wildfires in calendar year 2018 and floods in calendar year 2019. The funding is made available to California by the U.S. Department of Education as part of the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018 and again in 2019 by the Additional Supplemental Appropriations for Disaster Relief Act of 2019.

| Required Eligibility Criteria |
These funds may be used to serve both LEAs (including charter school LEAs) and nonpublic schools that applied to the California Department of Education (CDE) in order to participate in the program. In general, Restart funds may be used for activities that help the eligible LEA or nonpublic school reopen and restore normal operations. |
