2024 Turnip the Beet Award Winners

The California Department of Education Nutrition Services Division would like to congratulate 21 California school districts for receiving a 2024 Turnip the Beet Award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service.

The California Department of Education Nutrition Services Division (NSD) would like to congratulate 21 California school districts for receiving a 2024 Turnip the Beet (TUB) Award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

These schools were recognized for going above and beyond in their Summer Meal Programs (SMP) by offering nutrition education at their summer sites, providing nutritious meals based on local taste tests and local foods, and for using innovative marketing strategies to engage with their communities. This national award is based on a wide range of nutrition and meal quality criteria in three levels: gold, silver, and bronze. The California winners include:

Hesperia Unified School District - Gold Award

Lawndale Elementary School District - Gold Award

Lodi Unified School District - Gold Award

Manteca Unified School District - Gold Award

Menifee Union School District - Gold Award

Morongo Unified School District - Gold Award

Rialto Unified School District - Gold Award

Rowland Unified School District - Gold Award

San Luis Coastal Unified School District - Gold Award

San Ysidro Elementary School District - Gold Award

Santa Paula Unified School District - Gold Award

Centralia Elementary School District - Silver Award

Kern High School District - Silver Award

Romoland School District - Silver Award
