Families support, guide, mentor and advocate for youth as they progress toward successful transition outcomes in employment. This section focuses on what families can do to help their young adult transition to employment. An evidence-based practice that has proven effective in preparing youth for employment is a high level of parent involvement throughout the entire transition process.

Seeds of Partnership - Family Empowerment Centers External link opens in new window or tab.
Family Empowerment Centers (FECs) provide training and information to families of children and young adults with disabilities, between the ages of 3 and 22 in California. They aim to assist parents to better understand their child’s educational and developmental needs, effectively communicate with service providers, serve as a resource for the IEP process, participate in school reform and improvement activities, promote alternative dispute resolution, and support positive relationships between parents and professionals.
