Revision of the Visual and Performing Arts Framework
The California Department of Education (CDE) is revising the Visual and Performing Arts Framework (VAPA Framework) to incorporate and support the VAPA Standards, which are currently under revision.
- Schedule of Significant Events
The schedule of significant events for the revision of the VAPA Framework was approved by the State Board of Education on July 11, 2018.
Recruitment for the VAPA Curriculum Framework and Evaluation Criteria Committee (CFCC)
The VAPA CFCC will play a significant role in the revision of the VAPA Framework which will be revised to incorporate and support the 2019 Visual and Performing Arts Content Standards for Public Schools, Prekindergarten Through Grade Twelve.
Credentialed teachers; school, district, and county administrators; college and university personnel representing academic departments and schools of education; and representatives of citizen groups or educational organizations including teaching artists, and museum educators are encouraged to apply. The submission period for the online application is August 1–October 15, 2018. The online application will close on October 15, 2018 at 3:00 p.m.
All VAPA CFCC meetings will be held at the California Department of Education on the following dates:
- February 28–March 1, 2019
- April 4–5, 2019
- May 2–3, 2019
- June 13–14, 2019
- July 18–19, 2019
- August 15–16, 2019

VAPA Framework Focus Group Meetings
Pursuant to the California Code of Regulations, Title 5, Section 9511(c), the CDE will convene four focus groups across California to inform the content and guidance in the VAPA Framework. Applications for focus groups panelists were accepted March 21—May21, 2018.

At each focus group meeting, the focus group members will address a set of questions regarding the content of the revised Visual and Performing Arts Framework for the California Public Schools, Kindergarten Through Grade Twelve. Interested stakeholders not attending focus groups meetings, are invited to submit their response to the discussion questions to VAPA@cde.ca.gov.

- August 30, 2018 – California Department of Education (4–6 p.m.) and via video conference at the Humboldt, Siskiyou, and Tulare County Offices of education
