Subject: CALPADS Update FLASH #304
Reminder of July 1 Roll-Over Activities
The purpose of this Flash is to remind Local Educational Agencies (LEA) of two activities they should conduct before the 2024−25 academic year rolls over on July 1 to the new 2025−26 academic year.
Refreshing Former Foster Youth Report
The CALPADS report 5.9 – Former Foster Youth – Student List includes current actively enrolled students that were Foster Youth at one point during the academic year but are no longer Foster Youth as of the date the report was run. Per the California Department of Education’s (CDE’s) data sharing agreement with the California Department of Social Services (CDSS), the 5.9 report does not span academic years, and on July 1, 2025, the report will be refreshed and will display the current list of former foster youth students for the 2025–26 academic year. Therefore, LEAs are reminded that if there is a need to keep historical records of the former foster youth in the 2024–25 academic year, LEAs must download the 5.9 report as a Comma Separated Values (CSV) file or save a copy of the report prior to June 30, 2025.
Preparing for Direct Certification Counts During July and August
LEAs should download Direct Certification results prior to June 30, 2025 if they need to track students who were directly certified by CALPADS in the 2024–25 academic year.
LEAs are also reminded that, as they exit students in CALPADS at the end of the academic year, all students exited with a Student Exit Reason Code other than an E155 – Year End Enrollment Exit or E156 – Grade 12 Continuing will not be included in direct certification matching until subsequent enrollment records for the new academic year are posted in CALPADS. That is, while direct certification counts will include students who have been exited and are expected to return in the next school year (i.e., students exited with E155 and E156), direct certification counts may be significantly lower than expected until subsequent enrollments are submitted to CALPADS.
