California Career Resource Network (CalCRN)The CalCRN program provides career development resources, and training materials to middle school and high school students, counselors, educators, and administrators.
The California Career Resource Network (CalCRN) is a program within the California Department of Education as established in Education Code Section 53086. The CalCRN was initially established in 1978 as the California Occupational Information Coordinating Committee (COICC). In 1998, the COICC functions were transferred to the CalCRN which was authorized as part of America's Career Resource Network (ACRN), under Section 118 of the Carl D. Perkins Act Vocational and Technical Education Act.
The CalCRN's mission is to provide all persons in California with career development information and resources to empower them to reach their career goals.
Its primary duty is to distribute career information, resources, and training materials to middle school and high school counselors, educators, and administrators to ensure that middle and high schools have the necessary information available to guide and instruct students on the education and requirements necessary for career development. The CalCRN resources shall:
Encourage students to complete secondary education.
Provide career exploration tools including an introduction to the nature of career planning, self-assessment, methods of investigating the work world, methods of identifying and meeting education and training needs, and methods of creating a career action plan.
Assist students in acquiring and developing career competencies including the appropriate skills, attitudes, and knowledge.
Provide information about the labor market and career opportunities.
The CalCRN maintains a State Agency Partners Committee to improve coordination and communication among state-level administrators and planners and to support other state agencies in tailoring career-related educational resources and training. The State Agency Partners Committee is comprised of representatives from:
- The Director of Employment Development
- The State Superintendent of Public Instruction
- The Chancellor of the California Community Colleges
- The Director of Rehabilitation
- The Director of Social Services
- The Executive Director of the California Workforce Investment Board
- The Chief Deputy of the Adult Programs Division, Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation
- The Chief Deputy of the Juvenile Justice Division, Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation
- The Director of the Department of Developmental Services
