Arts, Music, and Instructional Materials Discretionary Block Grant


Funding Description

Funds are available to county offices of education, school districts, charter schools and state special schools to obtain standards-aligned professional development and instructional materials in specified areas, obtain professional development on improving school culture, develop diverse and culturally relevant book collections, operational costs and COVID personal protective equipment.

Required Eligibility Criteria The governing board or body of each school district, county office of education, or charter school receiving funds shall discuss and approve a plan for the expenditure of funds received at a regularly scheduled public meeting. It is the intent of the Legislature that each school district, county office of education, or charter school expend funds consistent with their approved plan. Program requirements are not waivable.

Allocation Formula Funds are allocated on a per-unit basis using average daily attendance (ADA) as reported for the 2021-22 second principal apportionment; ADA for state special schools shall be deemed to be 97 percent of the enrollment as reported in the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System as of the 2021-22 Fall 1 Submission.

Other Funds are available for encumbrance through the 2025-26 fiscal year. Local educational agencies are encouraged to proportionally use resources for purposes identified in Section 134(a)(1)-(5), and to support arts and music education programs. For purposes of this program, standards-aligned instructional materials include, but is not limited to books for school and classroom libraries.
