2022 Kitchen Infrastructure and Training (KIT) Funds

Funding Description

The California State Legislature apportioned $600 million for kitchen infrastructure and equipment, staff training, additional staff costs related to California's Universal Meal program, and freshly prepared meals. Local educational agencies (LEAs) including school districts, county offices of education, and charter schools that are sponsors of the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) or School Breakfast Program (SBP), are eligible to receive funds.

Allocation Formula Each eligible local educational agency that is a sponsor of the National School Lunch Program or School Breakfast Program may receive $100,000 base allocation. Of the remaining balance, 50 percent will be proportionately allocated based on the total number of meals served in October 2021. The remaining balance will be proportionately allocated to eligible LEAs that attest that no less than 40 percent of meals served as of the 2023-24 school year will be freshly prepared onsite meals.
