Charter School Declining Enrollment Relief


Funding Description

Funding is allocated to classroom-based charter schools that experienced declining enrollment in the 2021-22 fiscal year. Entitlements are based on the difference in average daily attendance for the charter school between the 2020-21 and 2021-22 fiscal years and on the charter school's Local Control Funding Formula entitlement rate per average daily attendance.

Eligible Applicants Local educational agencies
Required Eligibility Criteria Charter schools that operated in the 2020-21 and 2021-22 fiscal year, excluding charter schools classified as nonclassroom-based charter schools as of the 2021-22 Second Principal Apportionment.
Other Eligibility Considerations The allocation shall only apply to charter schools that are continuing operation in the 2022-23 fiscal year.

Allocation Formula For each eligible charter school:

1) Compute the difference between 2020-21 fiscal year funded average daily attendance (ADA) and 2021-22 fiscal year funded ADA, adjusted for the amount of ADA computed pursuant to paragraph (3) of subdivision (a) of California Education Code Section 42238.023.

2) Divide the total Local Control Funding Formula base, supplemental, and concentration grants calculated for the charter school for the 2021-22 Second Principal Apportionment by the 2021-22 funded average daily attendance.

3) Multiply the ADA difference by the local control funding formula per ADA rate.
