Program Hot Topics

• 2025–26 Charter School Certification of Information
  It’s that time of year—the California Department of Education (CDE) Charter Schools Division (CSD) is excited to announce the upcoming release of the 2025–26 Charter School Certification of Information (COI)! In the coming weeks, charter schools will certify their information that is on file with the CDE for the 2025–26 fiscal year through the COI, a web-based data collection that will be made available to all charter school administrators. The information reported and certified by charter schools will be used to inform state policy, create reports for the U.S. Department of Education, support charter school authorization and oversight, and promote transparency of the state’s public school system.
  
  Charter schools will have a two-week window in May to report, review, and certify their information via the COI. Additional details regarding this certification will be provided by the CSD shortly. The CSD recommends subscribing to the Charter-Schools Listserv to stay abreast of updates and details regarding the COI. Information about how to subscribe can be found on CDE Charter-Schools Listserv. Questions may be directed to the CSD by email at charters@cde.ca.gov.
  
• Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) Preparation
  LCAPs are to be updated annually and approved by their board and submitted to their authorizer and to the county office by July 1 each year.

California Department of Education and State Board of Education Updates

• The State Board of Education (SBE) meeting was held on May 7, 2025. The agenda included review of nonclassroom-based funding determinations and reviewing evidence from the Notice of Violation in order to issue a Notice of Intent to Revoke for Academia Avance Charter. The next SBE meeting will be held on July 9–10, 2025.
• The Advisory Commission on Charter Schools meeting will be held on June 3, 2025.
