Charter School Revolving Loan Fund

The Charter School Revolving Loan Program provided low-interest loans of up to $250,000 to new charter schools to help meet purposes established in schools' charters.

Time Period

• Funding established in 1996; currently active.
• Effective July 1, 2013, Assembly Bill 86 (Chapter 48, Statutes of 2013) authorized the transfer of the administration of the Charter School Revolving Loan Fund (CSRLF) from the California Department of Education to the California State Treasurer's Office, California School Finance Authority (CSFA).

Program Description

• The CDE administered the Charter School Revolving Loan Program from 1996 to 2013 at which time the administration of the program transferred to the California School Finance Authority (CSFA).
• The program provides low-interest loans of up to $250,000 to new charter schools to assist them with meeting the purposes of the school’s approved charter. The program is available to any charter school that is not a conversion of an existing public school, and that has not yet completed the full term of its initial charter.
