Updated CALPADS Technical Assistance

The California Department of Education (CDE) has updated its CALPADS Technical Assistance web page to reflect changes in response to Assembly Bill (AB) 126 (Chapter 65, Statutes of 2026). The page includes updated eligibility criteria, data submission guidance, and support resources: https://www.cde.ca.gov/ds/sp/cl/calpadsta.asp.

Changes Under AB 126

AB 126 amended Education Code sections 52071 and 52071.5 and added sections 52071.1 and 52071.51, aligning CALPADS technical assistance (TA) with California’s broader statewide system of support. Districts and county offices of education (COEs) that do not meet CALPADS submission requirements will receive technical assistance focused on improving data management and the timely certification of complete and accurate data. County superintendents provide this assistance to districts, while the CDE provides it to COEs, for a minimum of one year.

Eligibility for CALPADS Technical Assistance

Districts and COEs, excluding charter schools, are eligible for technical assistance if they do not submit CALPADS data according to the CDE-established processes and timelines, miss the final certification deadline for Fall 1, Fall 2, End-of-Year (EOY) 1, or EOY 2, or if information provided to the CDE shows their data were inaccurate or incomplete. While charter schools are not included in CALPADS TA, Districts and COEs are encouraged to support charter schools in timely and accurate certification.

Posting of Eligible LEAs

On October 15, 2026, the CDE will post the list of LEAs eligible for CALPADS technical assistance on the web page, concurrent with the release of the California School Dashboard and other statewide system of support information.

Data Submission Best Practices

LEAs should use the CDE’s zero-fatal-error target dates to allow sufficient time to review, correct, and certify complete and accurate data before each final deadline.
