Tools for Teachers is the new formative assessment component of the Smarter Balanced assessment system. It is an online collection of resources aligned with the Common Core State Standards that supports K–12 teachers in their use of the formative assessment process to adjust teaching to improve student learning. The instructional resources in Tools for Teachers are developed, submitted, and reviewed by members of the State Network of Educators. The State Network of Educators consists of educators from Smarter Balanced member states, including California.
On June 16, 2020, a preview of Tools for Teachers became available to California local educational agency (LEA) staff. Additional resources and features will be added to the preview web site in preparation for the grand opening of Tools for Teachers scheduled for September 30, 2020.

The Formative Assessment Process
