State Accountability Report Card 2023–24

Statewide annual summary report of student assessment, graduation rates, teacher qualifications, and other indicators.

The federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) requires each state to produce an annual report card that summarizes data of students statewide and disaggregated by student groups. Data from the components of the system are gathered throughout the year and reported here.

  2. Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments and CAA for mathematics in grades three through eight and grade eleven.
  3. California Science Test (CAST) and CAA for Science in grades five, eight, and once in high school (i.e., grade ten, eleven, or twelve).

Additionally, the U.S. Department of Education administers the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) assessments in reading and mathematics, and reports state-level results on the Nation’s Report Card.

The follow links provide data regarding the assessments, including participation rates for each assessment.

Financial

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) required states to report the per-pupil expenditures of Federal, State, and local funds, including actual personnel expenditures and actual non-personnel expenditures of Federal, State, and local funds, disaggregated by source of funds, for each local educational agency and each school in the State for the preceding fiscal year.

ESSA also requires state educational agencies to determine school eligibility for comprehensive support and improvement (CSI). Local educational agencies (LEAs) with schools that meet the criteria for CSI must collaborate with educational partners to locally develop and implement a plan to improve student outcomes.

Accountability System

California's accountability system is based on a multiple measures system that assess how local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools are meeting the needs of their students. Performance on these measures is reported through the Dashboard. The links below connects you directly to the Dashboard, supplementary reports, and supportive resources created to help parents, educators, and communities navigate through the state’s accountability system.
