Translations for Family Language Instrument and Family Language and Interest Interview

The following is a list of translations provided by the California Department of Education (CDE) in order to assist contractors in conducting the Family Language Instrument and Family Language and Interest Interview as specified in Management Bulletin (MB) 23-03.

Management Bulletin 23-03 provides guidance to California State Preschool Program (CSPP) contractors regarding requirements for identifying and collecting data on dual language learners, language characteristics of preschool programs and language composition of program staff. The MB 23-03 provides a Family Language Instrument and a Family Language Interest Interview template and directs contractors for how to use those tools.

As specified in MB 23-03, to the extent possible, the CDE strongly encourages contractors to conduct the Family Language Instrument and Family Language and Interest Interview in the language the family speaks. To assist with this, the CDE has provided translations of the Family Language Instrument and the Family Language Interest Interview below.

The California Department of Education Early Education Division has provided translations of the Family Language Instrument and the Family Language Interest Interview in order to assist contractors to conduct these tools in accordance with Management Bulletin 23-03. These translations are offered by the CDE to assist contractors to communicate with the parents and families about the tools and provide them in the language the family speaks. While CDE and translation services have attempted to accurately translate the original material into the various languages offered, due to the nuances in translating to a foreign language, slight differences may exist. Contractors are always welcome to provide their own translated forms to families as may be needed by the local communities they serve.
