    Section 117 of Senate Bill 153 (Chapter 38, Statutes of 2024) appropriated $25 million to train educators to administer literacy screenings to pupils in kindergarten and grades one and two, but excluding transitional kindergarten, for risk of reading difficulties.

    School districts, county offices of education, and charter schools with 2023–24 enrollment data for kindergarten and grades 1 and 2, as reported in the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System Fall 1 Certification.

    Funds are allocated on a per-pupil basis using each eligible local education agency’s 2023–24 enrollment data for kindergarten and grades 1 and 2, as reported in the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System Fall 1 Certification.
